Cricket South Africa (CSA) will be hosting the inaugural edition of the Africa T20 Cup finals tournament from 16th – 23rd September 2022, which has been confirmed by Africa Cricket Association (ACA). The tournament that started couple of years back with the regional qualifiers has had it’s share of postponements due to the ongoing Pandemic globally, but the ACA have now finalized the dates for the tournament to take place at Willowmoore Park Cricket Stadium and adjacent grounds in Guateng, Benoni. The top 3 teams qualifying from the regional tournaments (Western and Southern) joined Kenya and Uganda (Eastern) in the 8-nation tournament, with Group A featuring teams from Uganda, Botswana, Ghana and Mozambique, and Group B comprising of teams from Kenya, Tanzania (replaced Nigeria), Cameroon and Malawi.
The tournament group stage will be played in a single round-robin format, following which, the top two (2) team from each group will contest in the knock-out stages of the inaugural edition of ACA Africa T20 Cup. Sumod Damodar, ACA President, also expressed his thoughts on the future of other tournaments being organized by ACA, and was confident that upon the completion of the Africa T20 Cup tournament, other competitions at the Women’s and age-group levels would also be introduced in the near future, that will feature age-group and Women’s events in the Afro-Asia agreement being in place now between ACA and Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
The tournament is happening at a crucial time for all the countries in the competition except Uganda, as the ICC Africa sub-regional qualifiers are scheduled to take place in October/November in Rwanda and getting International matches to prepare for the qualifiers is something that most of the countries participating in this competition miss out on.

What happened to this tournament? Played or not yet?
The Tournament will be played in all likelyhood after T20 World Cup Qualifiers. Africa Cricket Association have not officially announced any start date for the tournament and with Kenya slated to take part in the qualifiers warm-up games from Oct 14th, the tournament cannot be held in 14 days flat in Nairobi. The event will happen at a later date.
How did these team qualify , I am seeing weaker team while stronger teams are not mentioned….
Cameroon is there but Sierra Leone is not there .
The countries qualified from their respective regional qualifiers held for Africa region associate members (who do not have ODI status). You can check our articles on the same on our website or can visit africa cricket association website to see the qualification process information.
All the squads are wrong. Botswana, Uganda, Malawi and Cameroon have now officially announced squads (different to these) and Kenyan media has reported that Collins Obuya, Eugene Ochieng (Odhimabo) are among those rested.
Any scores updates available?
Africa cricket Team Like Kenya, Uganda and Bostana need to play regular T20 cricket. But why they are not playing T20 Internations? When Kenya and Uganda Play their next T20 match. Please
Susanta, Uganda are currently playing their T20I bi-lateral series in Namibia in April. For Kenya, there is no immediate fixtures announced. The next official tournament scheduled for them is the T20 Africa Cup in September 2021 in South Africa.
