Cricket Boards of Oman and Qatar gain significant positions during ACC annual general meeting

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Colombo on 19th March 2022, and some very significant decisions in terms of administrative positions and membership were announced during the meeting, which was attended by representatives of all the member countries.

Pankaj Khimji, Chairman of Oman Cricket, was officially appointed as the Vice-President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) from 2022-23. Pankaj Khimji served as Chairman of the organization’s Development Committee before moving into his current role. “I’m truly honored and humbled to have been appointed the Vice-President of the ACC for 2022-23. It is a great privilege and also an honor for Oman Cricket and Oman as a country to have been given this recognition for all our achievements and all the infrastructure developments that have happened in the country over the years. We have an exciting 18 months to 2 years ahead, to come up with lots of plans for the development and growth of Asian Cricket. Hopefully, in the next few months we will try to re-energize and reinvigorate it. I look forward to working with Jay Shah and the administration team to help make Asian Cricket into a global force in the game.”

Qatar Cricket Association (QCA), who had been an Associate Member of the ACC since their inception in 2000, presented their application to upgrade their Membership to that of a Non-Test Playing Full Member status within the organization, which was accepted. QCA have been hosting prominent ICC (International Cricket Council) events (Regional Qualifiers for T20 World Cup and ODI Super League), and their membership upgrade will boost the growth of the game in the country in the coming years.
