Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia confirm cricket participation at 2022 Asian Games

Olympic Committee’s of Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand have confirmed their participation in both men’s and women’s medal categories in cricket at 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

The Asian Games committee completed the first phase of sports entry on 16th March 2021. The 45 National Olympic Committee’s were asked to submit the name of the sports they would intend to take part in the Games.

The second phase will now begin where based on the entries, the competition schedule and other details will be finalized. All T20 matches in this multi-nation event will carry official status as per ICC rules and regulations.

Quite surprisingly, Olympic Committee of Philippines did not submit entry for cricket category in their submitted list of 45 sports they will take part in, during the Games.

Cricket was not part of the list of sports in 2018 Asian Games but in during Olympic Council of Asia’s General Assembly meeting in 2019, it was decided that the sport will return as a medal category in the 2022 Asian Games.
