Cricket Association of Cambodia (CAC) have announced that they will be hosting a 8-nation President Cup T20 Championship in March 2022 at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh. The Board held discussions with other counterparts recently and have confirmed the participation from the countries, which is also important to showcase their hosting capabilities for multi-nation tournament.
The Board is pushing for the sport’s inclusion in the final list of games for the 2023 Southeast Asian Games, that Cambodia is hosting and the successful hosting of President Cup T20 tournament will only strengthen the case for the organization. Men’s national teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam and the Philippines have been confirmed for the tournament, as announced by CAC.
Cambodia’s membership with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was reinstated in 2021, which meant that Cambodia are now eligible to take part in ACC organized tournaments for the members in the region in both 50-overs and T20 formats. “This event will be a good opportunity to showcase Cambodia’s potential in cricket. We want to make sure that it will push through this time,” Vath Chamroeun, president of CAC, who is also the secretary-general of National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and Cambodian SEA Games Organizing Committee, said to the tabloids.
