Cricket Canada have announced the launch of a new Franchise-based T20 league, to be called as the The Flower City T20 Cricket Premier League (FPLT20). The league matches will be held in King City, Ontario from the June 09th – 18th, 2023 at Maple Leaf Cricket Ground. The tournament is being organized by Rana Ahluwalia productions & Virsa foundation in collaboration with Cricket Canada. The tournament was supposed to hold it’s inaugural edition in October 2022, for which the squads were also announced by the organizers, but unfortunately got postponed.
The tournament will see six (6) franchise-based teams, namely Toronto lions, Brampton Riders, Waterloo Kings, Mississauga Warriors, Hamilton Wonders and Ottawa Falcons compete for the Title. Each squad will comprise of fifteen (15) players, of which nine (9) spots would be open to Canada players and six (6) spots for overseas professionals. All the teams will play each other in a single round-robin group stage format, followed by the semifinals and the Final. The T20 league will be another attempt by Cricket Canada to have a domestic T20 league in the calendar year with Global appeal as the GT20 Canada tournament’s schedule for 2023 is not yet known.
