Having recently won the 5-nation Women’s T20I Tournament in Lagos, Nigeria, Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) is determined to provide more exposure to their Women’s team and announced their plans for the biggest Kwibuka Memorial Women’s tournament hosted till date, with as many as eight (8) associate member countries scheduled to take part in it from June 09th – 18th at the iconic Gahanga International stadium and IPRC Kigali ground in Kigali.
This will be the eighth (8th) edition of the annual Kwibuka Tournament, first organized in 2014 in remembrance of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi community. Kenya Women (2021) and Tanzania Women (2019) are the recent-past winners of the tournament, with this year’s edition to even feature teams from other regions apart from Africa. Women’s teams from Germany (Europe) and Brazil (Americas) will compete along with the host’s, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Uganda & Botswana and each team will play against all their other opponents in a single round-robin group stage format. The top two (2) teams compete in the Final, while the other six (6) teams also play position play-off matches to determine the final standings in the tournament.
