Maldives Cricket announce domestic pathway events for Women and U23 Men

Maldives Cricket have announced the domestic pathway competitions for it’s Women’s and U23 Men’s players in 2022, which will culminate in the formation of High Performance (HP) squads for both the categories, with an eye on the future selections in the national squad for International tournaments.

The National Women’s T20 Cricket Shield competition will be played from December 28th – January 06th, with players selected on the basis of performances in the regional softball tournaments set to take place in Male, Fuvahmulah and Kunahandhoo regions. The top fourteen (14) players from each regions will then compete in the T20 Shield tournament, from which a total of eighteen (18) players will be selected for Madives Women’s National squad and be part of the HP program.

The National Men’s U23 Cricket Cup tournament structure and player selection criterias are almost similar to the Women’s structure. However, the regional teams selection will be restricted to only two (2) regions of Male and Fuvahmulah. The National event will take place from December 28th – January 06th, before the top eighteen (18) players in the event will get selected for the U23 squad and HP program to prepare them for future National squad opportunities. The Men’s National squad are currently scheduled to take part in the Asia sub-regional qualifier in early 2023 towards qualification pathway for 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA.
