St Helena Cricket Association players have prepared for the Africa sub-regional qualifier through domestic competitions held in the T20 format from February – May 2022, having already concluded the 35-overs competition back in February 2022. The clubs, namely Challengers, Cobras, Jamestown Heat, Levelwood Allstars, Lions, Sandy Bay Pirates and Western A Mustangs took part in the 2022 season in both the formats, with Challengers retaining the 35-overs League Title with Sandy Bay Pirates securing the second place in the points table.
The Challengers club completed a double for the season by winning the T20 tournament as well, after their win in the final over Levelwood Allstars in June 2022. St Helena Men’s team will be playing their maiden T20Is with ranking points in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa regional qualifiers in Rwanda in November 2022, with the squad being led by Scott Crowie once again after their previous appearance in the Africa sub-regional qualifiers in 2018, and had a brief preparatory tour of Johannesburg in South Africa before travelling to Kigali for the event.
Although the team was not able to complete their schedule of playing matches during the tour due to weather concerns, they were able to take part in training sessions.
