International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced that the twin Global qualifiers for 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October/November will take place in Oman in February and Zimbabwe in July. Both qualifiers will feature 8 countries, who have earlier qualified automatically through ICC team rankings and through regional qualification pathway tournaments and also first-round exits from 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) will be hosting the second of the Global qualifiers from July 08th – 18th, 2022 and although the official schedule and groupings hasn’t been announced yet for the same, Josh Ball of South China Morning Post (SCMP) have learned from sources that ZC will host teams from Netherlands, Hong Kong, Jersey, Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Singapore and the United States in the qualifiers, from which the top 2 teams will advance to the first round of 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup. Much like the Oman qualifier, the eight (8) teams have been divided into groups of two (2), with top 2 from the group advancing to the semifinals. Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong and Uganda are part of one group, while the other will consist of teams from United States of America, Singapore, Jersey and the host’s Zimbabwe.
