International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced that the twin Global qualifiers for 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October/November will take place in Oman in February and Zimbabwe in July. Both qualifiers will feature 8 countries, who have earlier qualified automatically through ICC team rankings and through regional qualification pathway tournaments and also first-round exits from 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Oman Cricket (OC) will be hosting the first of the Global qualifiers from February 15th – 25th, 2022, Josh Ball of South China Morning Post (SCMP) have learned from sources that OC will host teams from Ireland, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Canada, Germany, Nepal and the Philippines in the qualifiers, from which the top 2 teams will advance to the first round of 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup.
The eight countries are placed in two groups of four each, and following the single round-robin group stage format, the top two teams in both the groups will advance to the semifinals. The winners of the semifinals will not only qualify for the Final, but also qualify for the first round of T20 World Cup in Australia. All the matches from the tournament will be live streamed on ICC.TV platform (except the Indian sub-continent region).
Ahead of the final group stage games on 21st February 2022, all the teams are still in contention (some hanging by the thread here) for semifinal spot berths, that will take them one step closer to achieving their target of claiming the two (2) spots into the first round of T20 World Cup in Australia.
