Vanuatu Cricket Association (VCA) will be hosting the Inaugural edition of the Women’s Pacific Cup T20 tournament from October 03rd – 06th , 2022 at Port Vila, with visiting teams from Papua New Guinea (Lewas), Fiji and Samoa joining the host’s in the double round-robin group stage format competition, which will see the top team in the points table claim the Title. The event will see teams from Vanuatu, Fiji and Samoa in T20 International matches for the first time since July 2019, when they last played during the Pacific Games.
The event will mark a new beginning in Women’s cricket in the Pacific region, which doesn’t see much exposure for the Women’s teams apart from the ICC sub-regional/regional qualifiers and the Pacific Games (held every four years and the previous edition was held in Samoa in 2019) events. The last ICC Women’s T20 World Cup EAP region qualifiers were cancelled due to COVID-related travel situations and PNG Women were given the direct entry from the region into the recently concluded Global qualifiers held in UAE, where they finished at a credible 5th place in the 8-team event.
