Vanuatu and Japan to host T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific sub-regional qualifiers

International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced that Cricket Boards of Vanuatu and Japan have been awarded the hosting rights for the East Asia-Pacific sub-regional qualifiers for 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The EAP A qualifier will be held in Vanuatu from September 09th – 15th, while EAP B qualifier will be held in Japan from October 15th -18th, 2022. Vanuatu will host Men’s teams from Cook Islands, Fiji and Samoa in the qualifier, while Japan will host Men’s teams from Indonesia and South Korea in the qualifier.

The winners of both the sub-regional qualifiers will advance to the EAP Finals, where Philippines are already placed after their exit from the 2022 Global Qualifier A tournament held in Oman in February, along with Papua New Guinea, who could not qualify from the 2022 Global Qualifier B tournament held in Zimbabwe in July. The winner of the EAP Finals (to be hosted by Papua New Guinea in July 2023) will qualify for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA, where a total of twenty (20) countries will be participating. Domestic cricket in Fiji and Samoa have been ongoing for the past couple of months to prepare the national squad selected players for the competition, while the Cook Islands Men’s team travelled to Auckland in the beginning of September and played few practice games (3 xT20s) against a Māori Men’s team, Tamaki Makaurua Tane, before flying to Vanuatu from there.
