Afghanistan announce strong squad for ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe

Afghanistan Cricket Board have announced the 15-member squad, led by Asghar Stanikzai, that will compete in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe in Mar 2018.

Afghanistan have included Mohammad Shahzad, who has resumed International cricket after completing his 1 year suspension in Jan 2018 along with the spin-sensation, Mujeeb Zadran in the squad. With Mohammad Nabi & Rashid Khan featuring in the top 5 in the ICC rankings in both ODI’s & T20I all-rounders & bowlers list, it is the strongest squad selection till date as they chase the top 2 spots in the Qualifiers to feature in ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019 in England and Wales.

Afghanistan are placed alongside Scotland, Zimbabwe, Hong Kong and Qualifier from ICC WCL Division 2 in their group. Top 3 teams at the end of group matches will advance to the Super Sixes stage of the tournament. Afghanistan & Zimbabwe are currently in UAE to play an ODI & T20I series as part of their preparations for World Cup Qualifiers.

Asghar Stanikzai (Captain), Mohammad Shahzad (WK), Ihsanullah Janat, Rahmat Shah, Najibullah Zadran, Javed Ahmadi, Samiullah Shinwari, Nasir Jamal, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Zadran, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Dawlat Zadran & Shapoor Zadran.

Reserve players: Noor Ali Zadran, Aftab Alam, Karim Janat, Afsar Zazai
