Cricket Colombia to hold fundraiser to cover costs for 2018 SAC

Cricket Colombia will be hosting the annual South American Cricket Championship for the first time in Aug 2018. The tournament will be played in both Men’s and Women’s categories.

Teams from Mexico, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina & Uruguay are expected to take part along with host’s Colombia from Aug 23-26, 2018 at Bogota. The tournament will be played in the T20 format for both the categories.

The 2017 edition was hosted by Argentina in Oct 2017, with the host’s wining both Men’s and Women’s categories. In the men’s category, Argentina beat Chile by 7 wickets, chasing 133 to claim the Title.

The Women’s final between Brazil and Argentina was a close affair with Argentina managing to put it across their counterparts by a 2 wicket victory margin, chasing 98 for the Title win.

All matches will be played at Los Pinos Polo Cup where Colombia’s domestic team’s, Cali Cricket Club, Medellin Cricket Club and Bogota Cricket Club have played in Jun 2018 for the Festival de Cricket de Bogota trophy.

Cricket Colombia are holding a fundraising raffle to raise money to cover the costs for the tournament and the raffle will take place on 06th Aug 2018 at Namaste Bar in Bogota.

The Women’s category is eligible for T20I status matches between the nations as ICC has decreed the status for all International matches between member boards for Women’s cricket, effective 01st Jul 2018.

Brazil, Chile and Peru were involved in matches recently against the visiting Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) while ex-England Women’s cricket team captain, Charlotte Edwards, recently visited Argentina and conducted training sessions with their Women’s National squad players.

Mexico have announced the Women’s squad for the tournament, which is being supported by Tech giant, Tech Mahindra.
