Day 6 action in 2018 RUSLAN Dhangadhi Premier League saw one team crash out of the running for qualification for the finals and another getting into the must-win last match scenario to get into the top 4 at the end of points table. While Rupandehi Challengers will rue their performances in the tournament right from the outset, Team Chauraha Dhangadhi made things tougher for them by not being able to chase down a below-par total set by Biratnagar Kings.
With the victories, Mahendranagar United and Biratnagar Kings have now taken #2 and #3 spots in the points table with not much differentiating between the two in terms of net run-rate. With the Top 2 teams getting a second chance even if they lose the Qualifier 1 match, the race to the 2nd spot is heating up with Kathmandu Goldens comfortably occupying the top spot with a clear lead of 2 points over their nearest challengers.
Pawan Sarraf was clearly the player of the day among all the four teams with a crucial knock of 41 runs to rescue Biratnagar Kings from a batting collapse and then triggered a collapse of his own as he picked up a 4-for to derail Team Chauraha Dhangadgi’s chase. Sunil Dhamala matched him and even bowled with a far better economy picking up a 4-for of his own to restrict Biratnagar in their batting innings.
Rupandehi’s batting once again failed to click together as a unit and much depended on Pradeep Singh Airee’s shoulders again but he missed out on the opportunity to score three half-centuries in a row. Sagar Pun played some enterprising shots but it wasn’t enough as a 144 total was definitely 15-20 runs shorter than what Rupandehi Challengers would have liked to get.
Mahendranagar United twice lost wickets in a cluster but a 58 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket and their opener almost carrying them to the victory target himself, the pressure didn’t fall entirely on the rest of the middle-order and late middle-order line-up, as they cruised to the target with more than an over to spare.
The tournament enters his business end now with all the top 4 teams currently on the points table looking to finish in the top 2 spots in the log to ensure that they can get another crack at the final if they lose the first Qualifier.
