Maurice Odumbe takes charge of Kenya ahead of ICC/ACA Qualifiers

Both Life and Cricket provides second and third chances and that’s exactly the case with Maurice Odumbe’s appointment with Kenya Cricket as the Men’s national team Head Coach ahead of ICC and Africa Cricket Association (ACA) qualifying tournaments.

Odumbe, who has been overseeing the Kenyan team as the batting coach since 2017, takes over from Thomas Odoyo, who resigned along with Kenya captain and Administration in a major shake-up in the history of Cricket in the country following the disappointing performances in ICC WCL Division 2 tournament held in Namibia in Feb 2018.

Maurice Odumbe played in three consecutive ICC Cricket World Cups in 1996, 1999 and 2003, and was banned from all Cricket activities by Kenya Cricket Association for five years following his alleged association with an Indian bookmaker for match fixing.

Kenya’s Women’s team coach, Lameck Onyango, will be the men’s team assistant coach effective immediately as Kenya prepares to rebuild itself ahead of travelling to Rwanda for ICC Africa Group C Sub-regional Qualifiers for WorldT20 and also host the East African regional qualifiers for ACA T20 Africa Cup Qualifiers in Jul 2018 in Nairobi.

The appointments were made by the Interim Management Committee of Cricket Kenya, formed after the previous Board was dissolved recently. More clarity on player selection and criteria will be announced shortly by the committee in the coming days.
