Debayan Mukherjee from IANS has reported that ICC is going to discuss on the matter of including more Associate countries in the future World Cups during the week long ICC Board Meetings in Kolkata, which commenced on 22nd Apr 2018.
“There will be discussions on how to go about it. The ICC needs more associate teams in future World Cups and this meeting should provide a headway,” an ICC official told IANS on the sidelines of the ICC women’s committee meeting on Sunday.
The issue will be discussed in the ICC board meeting on April 25 and 26.
These events are following the open criticism ICC has faced after they decided to organise the 2019 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales in a 10-team format, reducing it from 14 in 2015 Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
In the recently concluded ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, their decision came to much more scrutiny by both fans and players/support staff, who demanded a World Cup with more opportunities for Associate countries following performances by Scotland, UAE and Nepal.
