Fairbreak International XI a small step with a Giant purpose

FairBreak and the Commonwealth Businesswomen’s Network in collaboration with Sir Paul Getty XI will bring about the crucial issues of gender equality, such as equal pay and governance on the global stage on 30th May 2018 and the line-up of players brings about a big ensemble of Internationals from various regions across the globe.

An initiative, which is intended to bring forth the major Gender Equality issues, which is faced by Women’s cricketers across the globe. The event has garnered huge praise from all corners of the press and fans alike and such more initiative’s in the future will go a long way in securing the future of Women’s Cricket and their Equality rights.

When Mariko Hill from Hong Kong led the team in a practice game against Kent’s Girl’s development squad XI, it marked a special day in the history of Women’s cricket, when a Team consisting of players from more than 10 countries took to the field of play.

12 players from 11 countries including representation from 7 Associate member countries is what constitutes the Fairbreak International XI Women’s squad that will play against Sir Paul Getty XI at Wormsley Cricket Club ground in the UK.

The match will be played as part of the launch of Annual day for Gender Equality and will see Sir Paul Getty XI represented for the first time by a Women’s cricket team captains by former England captain, Charlotte Edwards.

A player each from Oman, Vanuatu, Hong Kong, Singapore, Rwanda, USA and Canada will join Suzie Bates from New Zealand, Alex Blackwell from Australia, Shamilia Connell from West Indies and three players from India in forming the Fairbreak International XI squad.

Women’s cricket has seen sharp rise in popularity in the past couple of years and the KFC Women’s BBL and KIA Super League have had their contributions towards globalising the game. The World T20 and Women’s World Cup attracted big numbers of interest from both sponsors and investors and it bodes well for the overall growth of Women’s cricket.

Fairbreak International XI and ICC Women’s Development Squad are some of the good initiatives taken in the past few weeks and more such platforms for players from Associate members to play against seasoned International Stars is what will propel the growth even more in their respective countries.

Wormsley’s cricket manager, Simon Tremlin said “Wormsley, often described as one of the most beautiful grounds in the world, is looking forward to welcoming FairBreak on May 30. The Sir Paul Getty Women’s XI will continue the tradition of top-level women’s cricket at Wormsley started by the England, Australia and India women’s sides.”
