Nepal & Netherlands need 2 ODI’s to get into ICC 16-Team ODI Rankings

In some clarity provided to Team rankings for both Full members and Associate members currently having ODI status, ICC has expanded the MRF Tyres Men’s ODI Team Rankings table from it’s current structure of 12 countries (All full members) to a 16-nation table, which will include the four Associate members carrying ODI status after the conclusion of ICC World Cup Qualifiers, for the next 4 year period.

Nepal, Scotland, Netherlands and United Arab Emirates will join the 12 full members in the new MRF Tyres Men’s ICC ODI Rankings table, effective 01st Jun 2018. All matches involving these four countries will henceforth, carry ratings points and performance in the ODI rankings table. Ireland and Afghanistan were the earlier Associate members when they were included in the 12-nation Rankings table in 2016, before getting full member status in Jun 2017.

Scotland are currently ranked 13th in the ODI Rankings table followed by UAE in 14th place. Netherlands and Nepal are not assigned an official ranking yet as they need to play minimum 4 more ODI’s to start accumulating ranking points and get ranked on the table. The updated ODI Rankings table as on 01st Jun 2018 can be viewed here.

The basis on which the four new teams were accounted for points and rankings was counting all the ODI’s played since May 2015 by Scotland and UAE against Full Members and against each other and Non-ODI’s played by Netherlands and Nepal against Full Members, Scotland and UAE as part of the ICC World Cup Qualifying tournament 2018.

Points and matches played between 01st May 2015 and 30th Apr 2017 are weighted at 50%, whereas matches played after 01st May 2017 are weighted at 100% for calculation of rating points.

Netherlands and Nepal played two ODI’s on 01st and 03rd Aug 2018 in Netherlands and will need two more matches from there to get their official Men’s Team ODI rankings. Nepal are already scheduled an ODI match against UAE in the upcoming Asia Cup Qualifiers and should they both meet again in the Final, Nepal’s criteria will get fulfilled to get into the ODI rankings for the first time in their history.
