Ireland announce T20I Tri-nation series squad with new Captain

Cricket Ireland have announced the 14-member squad, which will travel to Netherlands for T20I Tri-nation series involving the host’s, Scotland and themselves.

Ireland’s long serving Captain, William Porterfield, who has led the side in five WorldT20 tournaments, steps down from Captaincy duties in the T20 format and Gary Wilson has been appointed his successor to start Ireland’s preparations in the bid to qualify for ICC WorldT20 2020 in Australia.

Ireland will be playing two T20I games each against Netherlands and Scotland. Wilson, a veteran of 88 T20 matches for Ireland already in his career so far told Cricket Ireland website “I am absolutely honoured to be asked to undertake this role. With 16 months until the qualifying tournament for next World Twenty20 tournament in Australia, I believe this is a timely opportunity to prepare the squad for an important new phase in Irish cricket,”.

“I hope my experience and leadership in this form of the game will be of benefit in developing the next generation of leaders and am looking forward to the first step in this journey, the Tri-Series in the Netherlands.”
