Asia Cup discussions to take place during 2022 ICC AGM in Birmingham

The Board members of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will be meeting during the ICC Annual General Meeting on July 25th and 26th in Birmingham to discuss the future of ACC tournaments and commercialization of the said events. ACC is currently led by Jay Shah from BCCI, with Pankaj Khimji from Oman Cricket as the Vice-President.

On the agenda for ACC discussions would be the Men’s and Women’s Asia Cup tournaments and revival of U13 and U16 Asia Junior Cups in the region. The ACC Western region and Eastern region tournaments towards qualification for Men’s and Women’s Asia Cups are also being lined-up (assuming the Asia Cup qualifier will be discontinued) for discussions during the meeting. ACC is also planning to further monetize the junior age-group tournaments via live streaming of matches on ACC app and website. Commercialization of the tournaments via broadcast and media rights deals are crucial for ACC to generate more revenue for the entity, which operates independently and has no financial connection with ICC anymore.

The Men’s and Women’s Asia Cup tournaments are scheduled to take place in August/September and October this year respectively. However, it needs to be seen if the Emerging Nations Asia Cup tournament will be continued or not, as ACC are also planning to include the Afro-Asia Cup series in it’s calendar of events for the near future.
