USA stun Leeward Islands for first win as Canada lose bit of steam in Windies Super50

What a way to secure your first win in a tournament under the lights and in front of live TV cameras as USA stunned Leeward Islands Hurricanes by a big margin of 88 runs in their group stage fixture in Cricket West Indies (CWI) regional Super50 tournament at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The celebrations told it all and was well captured by the camera lenses as USA scripted a memorable win albeit defending a sub-par total of 197 put up by the batsmen. Wickets kept tumbling for Leeward Islands from both the ends, as they got bowled out in the 31st over, way ahead of their full quota of 50 overs. USA bowlers did almost everything right on the night as the collective effort reaped rich dividends.

Canada lost some steam, going down in their 4th group phase match, but this time there was not much of the gritty fight that they have been showing in their first three games, as they posted a below-par total of 202 on board and could pick up only three Guyana Jaguars wickets, as the latter won the match comfortably by 7 wickets and with good number of deliveries remaining in their innings during the chase.

Canada opener Navneet Dhaliwal continued his good hitting form with a half-century and missed out on a century by only 12 runs and there was good contribution from captain David Jacobs in the middle of the innings, but the rest of the batting line-up could not contribute much to the team total in the end.

Brief Scores:

Canada 202/9 in 50 overs (Navneet Dhaliwal 88, David Jacobs 44, Ralmaal Lewis 2/30, Clinton Pestano 2/30, Raymon Reifer 2/33, Romario Shepherd 1/31) lost to Guyana Jaguars 204/3 in 29.4 overs (Christopher Barnwell 99 n.o, Ramon Reifer 50 n.o, Chandrapaul Hemraj 33, Romesh Don 2/29, Sukhdeep Brar 1/38) by 7 wickets

USA 197 all out in 49.3 overs (Timil Patel 39, Monank Patel 27, Steven Taylor 22, Alex Amsterdam 21, Damian Jacobs 3/40, Rahkeem Cornwall 2/23, Jeremiah Louis 2/37, Chesney Hughes 2/38) beat Leeward Island Hurricanes 109 all out in 30.1 overs (Orlando Peters 37, Montcin Hodge 18, Devos Thomas 17, Nosthush Kenjige 3/22, Timil Patel 2/4, Elmore Hutchinson 1/4, Kyle Phillip 1/21, Roy Silva 1/26) by 88 runs
