USA have bettered than what they had achieved during Super50 tournament held in the first quarter of 2018 as they clinched their 2nd win in the 2018/2019 edition in Barbados by defeating Jamaica Scorpions by a healthy margin.
The win propelled USA to 12 points from their 8 matches, with 2 wins and 5 losses and their 2nd last group stage match being abandoned due to rain against Combined Campuses & Colleges Marooners.
To beat a strong Jamaican Scorpions team comprising of Chadwick Walton, Jermaine Blackwood, Andre McCarthy, Jerome Taylor and Nikita Miller among others is no mean feat as USA rode on Monank Patel’s clinical century and a combined effort by all the bowlers to script a memorable victory.
Barbados all-rounder Aaron Jones, who has made himself available for USA for ICC World Cricket League Division 3, played for USA against Jamaica and had a great impact on the game with a half-century and picked up 2 wickets.
Brief Scores:
USA 240/9 in 50 overs (Monank Patel 109, Aaron Jones 66, Alex Amsterdam 21, Elmore Hutchinson 16, Jerome Taylor 4/34, Derval Green 2/48, Christopher Lamont 1/41) beat Jamaica Scorpions 166 all out in 41.4 overs (Jermaine Blackwood 51, Nkrumah Bonner 30, Andre McCarthy 22, Nikita Miller 20 n.o, Timil Patel 3/15, Saurabh Netravalkar 2/29, Aaron Jones 2/46, Nosthush Kenjige 1/32) by 74 runs
Monank Patel finished at #4 in the highest run-scorers during the group stages of the tournament, with 290 runs from 7 matches at 41.42, while the other main scorers were far behind in terms of numbers with Alex Amsterdam (150 runs from 7 matches), Steven Taylor (141 runs from 5 matches) & Timil Patel (117 runs from 6 matches) lining up behind Monank.
Elmore Hutchinson, Nosthush Kenjige & Timil Patel collected 9 wickets during the group stages while Kyle Phillip and Saurabh Netravalkar pocketed 6 wickets, playing fewer matches than the others. The group collectively did a overall good job and need to repeat the same during their WCL Division 3 campaign in Oman in a few weeks from now.
