Cricket Oman have announced a 16-member men’s senior squad to take on Scotland in a 3-match series in 50-overs format at Al Amarat from Feb 19th – 22nd, 2019. All matches will be day games with a starting time of 9:30 am local.
The series is an extension to Scotland’s tour of Oman, which consisted of the recently concluded T20I quadrangular series also featuring Ireland and Netherlands. Scotland won the tournament on better net run-rate against Ireland after winning the final group match against Oman.
The 50-overs series is of utmost importance to Oman, as they prepare for the all-important ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 2 tournament in Apr 2019 in Namibia, where a top 4 finish among the 6 participants will guarantee ODI status until 2022 ICC World Cup Qualifiers and 36 guaranteed ODI matches in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, which is the pathway towards the 2022 Qualifiers.
For Scotland, the matches will be to get back into the longer format of the white-ball cricket ahead of a busy home schedule, where they host Sri Lanka and Afghanistan for a 2-match ODI series respectively.
