After being under water for more than 5 days ago, Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) staff have put in a commendable effort to get the picturesque Amini Park ground ready to host the matches in the ICC East Asia-Pacific regional finals from Mar 22nd – 24th, 2019.
All matches in the regional finals will be played with official T20I status, which means that the men’s senior team’s of Vanuatu and Philippines will be making their debut’s in the format and such recognition will only bode well for the future of the game in the Pacific Islands and the EAP region.
Each team will play each other in a double round-robin group stage format, upon completion of which, the top nation will advance to the global qualifiers, set to be held in Oct/Nov 2019 in UAE. While PNG and Vanuatu qualified from the sub-regional qualifiers involving Fiji and Samoa, Philippines secured their place after competing with Indonesia, Japan and South Korea in their sub-regional tournament.
