Scotland’s Mark Watt, who had earlier made his debut for Derbyshire Falcons in England’s Vitality T20 Blast in 2019, will be back again with the club for the entire season of 2022 Vitality Blast, after a successful campaign for Scotland in the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in UAE/Oman had Associate cricket followers call for his inclusion in the top T20 franchise leagues.
Watt’s debut game spell of 4/19 in 2019 included the scalps of David Willey, Harry Brook, Gary Ballance and Nicholas Pooran, which was part of his seven T20 wickets haul in the competition, as Derbyshire Falcons reached Finals Day for the first time. Watt had one of the most consistent outings in the T20 World Cup, picking up 7 wickets in his 8 matches at an economy rate of just mildly above 6 runs per over. He will be available for all 14 Vitality Blast group fixtures, as well as any knockout matches, should Derbyshire progress from their group.
Mark Watt will be part of the International signing trio of the 2022 season for the club, that includes Shan Masood from Pakistan and Suranga Lakmal from Sri Lanka. Derbyshire Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said on the club website press release “We have been looking for a left-arm spinner to mix up our bowling in T20 and Mark ticks all of the boxes for us. Mark showed at the World Cup he has the ability to take the game to any opposition, he has done well in the Vitality Blast before for Derbyshire and I have no doubt he will be a key member of our team this year.”
