Following Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) suspension by International Cricket Council (ICC), the global body has announced the replacements for both Men’s and Women’s global qualifiers for 2020 T20 World Cup’s in Australia.
Namibia Women’s team will replace Zimbabwe in the Women’s Global Qualifiers to be held in Scotland in Aug/Sep 2019 and will compete alongside Scotland, Netherlands, Ireland, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Thailand and USA in the 8-nation tournament for the final two qualifying spots in the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Namibia Women were chosen by virtue of finishing as runners-up to Zimbabwe in the Africa Qualifiers held earlier this year.
In the Men’s Global Qualifiers, Nigeria will replace Zimbabwe and join Kenya and Namibia from the African qualifiers held earlier this year, as they finished third in the tournament. Nigeria thus join UAE, Hong Kong, Ireland, Jersey, Singapore, Netherlands, Scotland, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Kenya, Namibia and two teams from the Americas qualifiers, which will be held in Bermuda in Aug 2019.
