PNG prepare for CWC League 2 opener with New South Wales Invitational XI games

Cricket PNG (Papua New Guinea Barramundis) have announced the 14-member squad, which will travel to Aberdeen in Scotland to take on the host’s and Oman in the first of many tri-series in the newly formulated ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 from Aug 10th – 24th, 2019.

The ICC CWC League 2 is the pathway towards qualification for 2022 ICC CWC Qualifiers, and all the seven countries involved in it (Scotland, UAE, Nepal, Oman, PNG, Namibia & USA) will play 36 ODI matches in the next 2 1/2 years, after the conclusion of which the top three countries will qualify directly for the qualifiers, while the bottom four in the points table will contest in the Qualifiers play-off tournament. PNG secured their place in CWC League 2 and ODI status until 2022 CWC Qualifiers in the final edition of ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 2 in Namibia.

All matches in the double round-robin format event will be played at Mannofield, Aberdeen with a start time of 11am.

PNG players prepared for the League 2 tournament by playing two games against a New South Wales Invitational XI squad made up of NSW players and few barramundis members.
