The ICC Board in October 2024 approved a series of women’s Associate Member (AM) T20 competitions to boost the competitiveness of AM teams in preparation for the expansion of ICC women’s events in the 2028-2031 cycle. The strategy includes the creation of two (2) annual T20 International tournaments between 2025 and 2028 which would offer structured cricket with context to 24 teams in the pathway ahead of the 16-team ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2030.
The first event will be the eight (8)-Nation Women’s Emerging Trophy, to be hosted by Cricket Association of Thailand (CAT) from November 18th – December 01st, 2025 and will feature the National teams of Associate Member boards currently holding ODI (One-day International) statue, i.e, Thailand, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Scotland, Netherlands and United Arab Emirates (UAE). They will be joined by the next three (3) highest ranked teams in the ICC rankings table at the cut-off at 01st May 2025, i.e, Uganda, Namibia and Tanzania. All Teams in the competition will play against each other in a single round-robin group stage format.
The second (2nd) event will feature five (5) Nations, outside of IWC (International Women’s Championship featuring eleven (11) full member Nations) and the eight (8) teams competing in the ICC Women’s Emerging Trophy. If the Winners of the ICC regional Qualifiers for 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup are the chosen teams instead of the next five (5) in the ICC team rankings table, then United States of America (Winner of Americas Qualifier) and Nepal (Winner of Asia Qualifier), will be be joined by the best placed team in the Europe Qualifier (excluding Ireland, who are already in IWC as a Full member Nation and Netherlands, who are already in Emerging Trophy), Africa Qualifier (excluding Zimbabwe, who are already in IWC and the trio of Namibia, Uganda and Tanzania, who are already in Emerging Trophy) and the East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Qualifier (excluding Papua New Guinea, who are already in Emerging Trophy). This format and dates/host has not been confirmed yet, and an offical ICC press release will be circulated in due course of time.
