When you have a maximum of 15 matches available to try and top the group consisting of 6 countries including yourself, the minimum you would need as a squad is to get a good start and start winning matches from the onset. The story for the 12 countries (6 each in CWC Challenge League groups A & B) in the tussle is a tough and demanding one, but for getting one step closer to qualifying for Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, it’s all to play for.
The 1st leg of CWC Challenge League Group A tournaments out of 3 got underway in Malaysia with all the 6 participants (Malaysia, Singapore, Canada, Denmark, Qatar & Vanuatu) having played their first match in the single round-robin group stage format. It was a special occasion for Vanuatua, Qatar and Singapore, as they played their maiden List-A game, with the others having played the format before.
Malaysia, Qatar and Canada registered victories in the opening group fixtures, with Malaysia defeating Denmark on the opening day of the tournament, and Canada/Qatar coming up victors against Vanuatu and Singapore respectively on the 2nd day of the competition.
