Argentina Men’s national squad and Brazil Women’s national squad have won the respective men’s and women’s categories in the 2019 South American Championships played from Oct 03rd – 06th, 2019 at Lima Cricket and Football ground in Peru.
While Argentina men defeated Mexico to lift the men’s title, Brazil women defeated Argentina in the final to win the women’s title. The men’s final saw Mexico score 105/9 in their 20 overs, with Argentina chasing the total in 18.4 overs, scoring 111/6, thus winning the match by 4 wickets. In the women’s final, Argentina were bowled out for 73 runs in 16.1 overs, which was chased down by Brazil in 17 overs, scoring 74/6, thus winning the match by 4 wickets.

Argentina men remained unbeaten in the group stages, winning all their 6 matches (4 T20I’s against Mexico, Peru, Brazil and Chile), while Mexico and Peru finished on equal points after winning 4 matches out of their completed six games. Mexico (+0.756) edged past Peru (+0.310) through to the finals on a better net run-rate maintained during the group stages. Both Mexico and Peru registered 2 T20I wins in the group stages, while Chile, Brazil and Peru registered a solitary T20I win during the group stages.

In the women’s category, Brazil were unbeaten throughout the group stages and the final, to register 5 T20I wins during the event. Brazil captain Roberta Moretti Avery was the leading scorer of the tournament, making 116 runs in 4 innings, followed by Samantha Hickman of Peru (91 runs in 4 innings) and Renata Souza of Brazil (89 runs in 4 innings). Alison Stocks (Argentina), Nikki Monteiro (Brazil) and Samantha Hickman (Peru) were the leading wicket-taker’s in the tournament with 8 wickets to their names.
