Japan’s maiden game in ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in the warm-up’s against Scotland ended in a bitter disappointment, after losing the match by a big margin of 256 runs.
Scotland U19 amassed 325 in 47.2 overs, much thanks to Tomas Mackintosh’s 103 retired out knock, and was well supported during the 126-runs partnership for the 2nd wicket with Ben Davidson, who scored 75 runs. Japan bowlers will take heart from the fact that they managed to bowl out the Scots, before they could add few more runs in the final 2 overs.
Yugandhar Retharekar and Max Clements were the pick of the bolwers for Japan. However, during their batting turn, everything went wrong from the outset, as barring captain Marcus Thurgate’s innings of 33 runs, none of the other batters could make an impact, with just Thurgate’s opening partner reaching double digit figures.
A remarkable 6-wicket haul from Scotland’s Charlie Peet and pressure from the rest of Scottish bowing attack proved too much for the young Japanese batters, as their innings folded for only 69 runs in 31.5 overs. Peet conceded only 2 runs in his 29-ball spell of slow bowling, that rattled the middle and lower order line-up for Japan.
