While Oman’s national men’s squad is quite a settled lot at the moment, Head Coach Duleep Mendis will be keeping a keen eye on the progress of some of the uncapped players, who performed well for their respective clubs in the T20 premier league. The team will be playing lot of International cricket in 2021 and 2022 including World Cup/T20 World Cup qualification pathway events, after the majority of the tournaments were postponed from 2020 due to the pandemic.
Duleep Mendis will be wary of the fact that the T20 format will require a strong bench-strength, as one of the major blips in the national squad performance came in 2020, when they failed to advance from Western Region T20 competition into the main qualifiers for ACC 2021 Asia Cup, as they lost to Qatar during the group stage of the competition. The squad then were hampered by the loss of Adnan Ilyas due to injury and missed the entire tournament.
