Cricket Hong Kong (CHK) will organize the CHK All Stars Series during March and April in 2021, which will bring together the best talent in Hong Kong (capped and uncapped players) in a series of T20 and 50-overs matches at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground. The series, originally planned from 11th – 18th December 2020 was postponed as government restrictions introduced due to Hong Kong’s 4th Wave of Covid-19 resulted in the closure of all team sports venues.
All games will be broadcast live on Cricket Hong Kong’s Youtube channel and Fancode app in India. EPIC Group has also come on board as the principal sponsor and naming partner for the All Star series. Hong Kong players were last involved in the T20 Premier League competition in November 2020, which saw the five domestic clubs take part, with Kowloon Cricket Club emerging victorious in the final against Hong Kong Cricket Club.
Cricket Hong Kong General Manager – High Performance Mark Farmer said on the cricket board’s website “We’re incredibly excited to launch the All Stars Series. With the absence of International cricket the All Stars Series is going to provide an exciting and competitive platform for Hong Kong’s best cricketers to showcase their skills both domestically and around the world.”
Three teams, namely The Kowloon Lions, The New Territories Tigers and The Hong Kong Islanders will take part in the T20 category in the All Stars event, while the players will be re-drafted in the Hong Kong Islanders and Kowloon Lions team in the 50-over category.
Hong Kong are set for a busy International calendar in 2021-2022, with CWC Challenge League events, Asia Cup qualifiers and T20 World Cup global qualifiers in 2022, and the domestic competitions will help Head Coach Trent Johnson to chalk out the possible squads for the challenges ahead, especially in the 50-overs format. Squads for the tournament will be announced by CHK in the coming week.
Most of the players were last involved in the T20 format was in the domestic club T20 competition held during October/November 2020.
