Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) will be hosting the African region qualification pathway tournament towards 2022 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in West Indies from September 28th – October 07th, 2021 at Gahanga International Stadium and IPRC Kigali ground in Kigali. As originally scheduled, Tanzania were to host the 6-nation Division 2 tournament in August 2021 but was cancelled owing to COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions, with Tanzania and Rwanda promoted to the Africa Division 1 Qualifier on the basis of their records in the previous five editions of the U19 CWC qualifiers.
ICC Africa regional development manager Patricia Kambarami notified the host nation and the participating nations about the decision in a written email sent on 07th July 2021. Rwanda Cricket Association will also host all the qualifiers for the Africa region towards 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after the conclusion of the U19 tournament.
Nigeria qualified for the previous edition of the Men’s U19 CWC for the first time ever, in 2020 in South Africa. Nigeria qualified through Division 2 tournament in South Africa and Division 1 tournament in Namibia to qualify for their maiden appearance in the U19 Cricket World Cup. Kenya and Namibia took part in the 2018 edition of the U19 Cricket World Cup held in New Zealand.
