Philippines men’s national squad captain and vice-captain Jonathan Hill and Daniel Smith, were able to get the Australia based Filipino players together for a three day training camp at Joe McAleer Oval in New South Wales with two T20 games and a 30 over match held against Blacktown Cricket Club from April 06th – 08th, 2021.
Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Tony Bleasdale OAM said in the press article “It’s wonderful to be able to welcome these athletes and offer our first-class cricket facilities for training. We have a large, wonderful Filipino community in Blacktown City, so there is no better place this team could have come.
“These athletes, like many others, have had to overcome many obstacles due to COVID with competition schedules and training sessions up in the air following lockdowns, restrictions and travel bans. I hope they enjoyed their time in Blacktown and I would like to wish them the best of luck as they look to qualify for the World Cup. We hope to see them again soon.”
Philippines men’s squad are scheduled to take part in the ICC East Asia-Pacific regional qualifiers in Japan from October 11th – 16th, where they will compete against the host’s, Vanuatu, Samoa, Fiji, Indonesia, South Korea and Cook Islands for a lone qualification spot into the global qualifiers for 2022 ICC T20 Men’s World Cup in Australia. Jonathan Hill would hope to go one step further than the 2019 regional finals, where they lost out to Papua New Guinea for the lone qualification spot.
