Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) have announced the senior Women’s squad for the upcoming 6-nation Women’s T20I tournament being held in Rwanda from June 06th – 12th will not be travelling after few positive COVID results were found within the bio-bubble environment created for the squad before their departure for Rwanda.
Uganda Women were due to compete against team’s from Botswana, Kenya, Rwanda, Namibia and Nigeria in the competition, with two groups scheduled in a double round-robin format, followed by the semifinals and the finals/third place play-off. All the matches in the tournament were carry ranking points towards ICC Women’s T20I team rankings table. The matches are very crucial for all the countries, as they will again meet each other during the ICC Africa regional qualifiers for 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Botswana.
Uganda Women were placed in Group A along with Botswana Women and the host’s. The top team from both the groups at the end of the double round-robin format will advance to the final, while the 2nd placed team in the points table in both the groups will compete in the 3rd place play-off match. Uganda national squad members have been playing a series of inter-squad games and matches against the U19 squad to prepare for the tournament and will be very disappointed about the positive results outcome since this was to be Uganda Women’s first International assignment after their previous series in Zimbabwe in 2019.
