Cricket Kenya (CK) have announced the start of the National Women Cricket League in Nairobi from 02nd July 2022, which will be known as the “Emily Ruto Memorial Cup” in remembrance of the former Captain, who passed away unfortunately at the age of 25 in 2014 due to a serious illness. This is a progressive step taken by the board to further develop the national/domestic players, who have in the past played in the 2019 and 2021 editions of Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) League. The tournament will be a benchmark for selection into the National squad, who have done well in the past 2-3 seasons with appearances in multi-nation events overseas in Rwanda and Malaysia.
The 4-team Super Division comprises of teams from Lenana Twigas, Nelion Kibokos, Savannah Simbas and Batian Farasis, while Division 1 comprises of teams from Sharks, Turtles, Dolphins and Whales competing for the title, and will play each other in double round-robin group stage format in the T20 format.
