International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced the match schedule for the resumption of CWC League 2 Championship in September 2021 in Oman, as the host’s will play the 7th round of the competition at Al Amerat with Scotland and Papua New Guinea (PNG). Scotland and Papua New Guinea (PNG) are currently at the 3rd position and at the bottom position respectively in the CWC League 2 points table for the moment, having already played 8 games each out of their scheduled 36 games respectively during the earlier played five round of the competition. Oman are leading the points table, having already played 10 games in their schedule in the Championships.
Oman Cricket are currently hosting the Indian state team of Mumbai for a 6-match series, with 2 matches in the T20 and four (4) matches in the 50-overs format. The T20 leg is being proposed to take place first, followed by the 50-overs matches as Oman national squad are using this opportunity to prepare themselves for upcoming Cricket World Cup (CWC) League 2 events in September involving teams from Nepal, United States of America, Papua New Guinea and Scotland.
Papua New Guinea will also be playing two (2) ODIs each against Nepal and USA from September 05th – 09th at the OC Turf 2 oval to prepare for the League 2 tournament themselves. All the countries will play each other twice in the competition, and will be crucial from PNG’s perspective to collect points and move up the 7-nation rankings table. The top 3 countries at the end of the Championship will qualify directly for ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe, while the remaining 4 countries will play the Challenge League play-off with 2 teams from the Challenge League groups A and B, for the final 2 spots in the global qualifiers.
