Emirates Cricket to host 5-nation T20I matches prior to 2021 ICC T20 World Cup

Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) in collaboration with ITW Consulting will be hosting Men’s teams from Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, Cricket Namibia and Cricket Papua New Guinea in the DafaNews Summer T20I Bash from October 05th – 10th, 2021 at the ICC Academy ground in Dubai. The matches will be part of preparations for the participating countries ahead of the start of the Men’s T20 World Cup from 17th October in Oman and UAE.

The matches will be sponsored by Dafa News, with ITW already securing broadcast deals with Sony Ten Sports Network in India, Free Sports in UK, Geo Super in Pakistan and CricLife in UAE, while discussions are ongoing to secure other regional broadcasting coverage for the matches. Papua New Guinea and Scotland are currently based in Oman to start the 7th round of CWC League 2 Championships from 25th September along with the host’s, while Namibia and Ireland will be travelling directly to UAE shortly to begin their campaign.

Robin Singh, Director of Cricket, Emirates Cricket said in the official press release “This series is a great opportunity to see where we (UAE) stand against a team that is not only a test nation but a team that has been preparing to compete at one of the highest levels of international cricket being the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Last time we faced Ireland our matches were impacted by COVID-19 and the team was performing extremely well, in announcing this series the players are energized and looking forward to the start (of the series) and putting in another strong performance. We are looking at bringing in a number of younger players, based on merit, into the squad and have been focused on developing this group over the past 6 to 7 months. With so much cricket being played across the UAE at the moment, interest in the game is high and the eyes of the cricketing world are already on us, so we are presented with a great platform for other players, teams and administrators to see what the UAE is capable of.”
