Sierra Leone Cricket Association look forward to 2022 after a development filled 2021

It has been a massive year of development for Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) both on and off the field. While the domestic season was conducted successfully at both senior and youth levels for both men’s and women’s players across the country, the Men’s national squad also secured their maiden ICC T20I team rankings with 61st place in the latest announced table by ICC.

Off the field, it was a year where development and governance of a lot of key areas were at the forefront which included the likes of conducting online scoring courses, Manual Scoring seminar, Umpiring Training for beginners/intermediates and elites, Criiio Cricket Program Facilitators Training Workshop, Training of Sports Writers on Cricket reporting, Online Training for Geographic Information System, Curators Training, Strength and Conditioning Training, Training on data capturing , Female Leadership Training on Event Management, Coaching Clinics in Schools from the South, Northwest and Western Area regions, organization of Cricket festivals to just name a few.

The youth was a crucial focus area with SLCA conducting lot of competitive tournaments at both boys and girls age-group levels that included ten (10) One-Day domestic cricket series between U19 v U17 youth, five (5) U19 v Patriots domestic ODD series, and ten (10) U19 Women’s series. SLCA has already outlined plans for identification and installation of Cricket development hubs in six Schools across the country and developmental training programs for teachers (Men’s/Women’s) in the schools in the coming year.

Chairman of SLCA, Francis Trevor Samura said “Our focus for 2022 will be participation with Women’s Cricket development, giving top priority to Domestic Cricket, fan engagement and international competitiveness.”
