Germany Cricket (DCB Cricket) have announced their 14-member men’s national squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers in Oman from February 15th – 25th, 2022. This will the first appearance for Germany Men’s squad in a Global qualifiers, after they secured their spot from the European qualifiers held in Spain in 2021. Germany will be competing in the 8-nation qualifiers in a bid to secure one of the two available qualification spots into the first round of 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, for which the groupings and the schedule has been announced.
The team were last seen in action during their tour of Spain in November, where they played a T20 tri-series tournament involving teams from Italy and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). However, some of the first XI players were not part of the tour as DCB sent a development squad for the event, and that has brought the likes of Shoaib Azam Khan, Nooruddin Mujadady, Rasul Ahmadi and Fayaz Khan Nasseri the opportunity to claim a spot in the side for the qualifiers. The squad will be led by Venkat Ganesan, who has a 60% win record in Men’s T20Is from 2019-2021.
A big notable inclusion in the squad is Justin Broad, who hails from South Africa and has played for Western Province in National U15/U17 weeks and also represented Cape Cobras Franchise Cubs side at the National Cubs week at the age of 17. After moving to UK, he has played for Bury St Edmunds CC in the ECB East Anglian Premier League and also represented Marylebone Cricket Club Young Cricketers team.
