The Technical Committee for the African Games (TCAG) and Executive Chairman (EC) of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare have announced that “Cricket” will feature among the 25 sports disciplines set to take pace in the 13th African Games (Accra 2023) in Accra from March 07th – 23rd, 2024. Both Men’s and Women’s categories will take place during the Games and barring the ICC (International Cricket Council) and the ACA (Africa Cricket Association) T20 Africa Cup tournaments (Men), the region doesn’t have any other major multi-nation event of this stature (The Kwibuka Memorial Women’s T20I event in Rwanda being an exception and ACA is hopeful to launch the Women’s edition of T20 Africa Cup in the near future).
In the Women’s category, teams representing Uganda, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Kenya, South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania and Nigeria will be competing. In the Men’s category, teams representing Uganda, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Nigeria will be competing. Also, in a significant development reported by The Namibian, Namibia Cricket CEO Johan Muller has told in an interview to Desert Radio network, that the Games will act as a Qualifier for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
