Updated rules for “Player Release” for ICC events coming into effect in April 2022

The International Cricket Council (ICC) have updated their rules (clauses) for “player release” by a Full member board under whom the concerned player is contracted (National/Domestic), who wishes to represent the National team of an Associate member board in ICC events or other International matches/series (against Full member country teams). The updated rules will come into effect since 10th April 2022.

The release of players who wish to play for the National Representative Team of an Associate Member shall be mandatory only for the following matches (in both men’s and women’s cricket as applicable):

  1. ICC Cricket World Cup matches
  2. ICC Champions Trophy matches
  3. ICC T20 World Cup matches
  4. ICC U19 Cricket World Cup matches (ODI/T20I)
  5. ICC Cricket World Cup global Qualifier
  6. ICC T20 World Cup global Qualifiers
  7. ICC Cricket World Cup Super League
  8. All ODI and T20I matches against Full Member countries/boards

Any contractual provisions agreed with a player must be consistent with these requirements. Other rules related to player release and obtaining NOC by a player from a Full member board for playing in domestic matches in an Associate member country are outlined here.
