Edmonton and District Cricket League along with Alberta Cricket Association, a registered Association with Cricket Canada, will be hosting the 2022 edition of the Champions Cricket Open tournament in Edmonton from September 01st – 05th at three venues (Pusha grounds 1 & 2, Victoria Park, Castle Downs, St Albert and Millwoods). A total of twenty (20) clubs from Canada and overseas (Florida Scorpions from USA) will be competing in the tournament, with four (4) groups of five (5) teams each in a single round-robin group stage format. The top two (2) teams from each of the groups will advance to the quarter-final stage after the conclusion of the group stages.
Canada national squad and other domestic players will be playing alongside others who have competed in the recently concluded Minor League Cricket (MiLC) in the US. Florida Scorpions, who compete in the annual US Open T20 tournament organized by Cricket Council USA (CCUSA), have signed up Scotland national squad members (Kyle Coetzer, Richie Berrington, Calum MacLeod, Michael Leask, Ollie Hairs, Matthew Cross, Chris Greaves, Safyaan Sharif and Adrian Neill) and Bermuda national squad captain Kamau Leverock as part of their roster for the event.
