Four spots from Global Qualifiers into 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup

The qualification pathway for the fourteen (14)-team ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 was confirmed by International Cricket Council (ICC) with ten (10) teams gaining automatic qualification. The ten (10) will comprise South Africa and Zimbabwe as Full Member host’s and the next eight (8) highest ranked teams on the ICC MRF Tyres ODI Rankings at the cut-off date of 31st March 2027. The remaining four (4) teams will qualify via the ICC CWC Global Qualifier set to take place in April/May 2027, which might see Namibia Men qualify to play in (depending upon their final finishing positions in the qualification pathway events), who are also co-hosting the event along with South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The top four (4) teams in the points table from CWC League 2 ODI Championship will qualify directly for the CWC Qualifier. They will be joined in the CWC Qualifier by four (4) teams coming through the CWC Qualifier Play-Offs as well as teams (2 of them) that don’t qualify automatically based on ICC ODI Rankings. The CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament (which will be played with ODI status) will comprise of the bottom four (4) teams in the CWC League 2 ODI Championship and the top two (2) teams from both Groups A and B from CWC Challenge League. The top four (4) teams in the Qualifier will then join the ten (10) direct qualifiers in the World Cup (Co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe and the other top eight ranked teams) in the fourteen (14) team Cricket World Cup lineup.

  • Any idea when the schedule of CWC league 2 for next FTP cycle will be released?

    • Hello Raja

Nothing will be announced before ICC officially announces the start of the next cycle of events towards qualification for 2027 World Cup. have to wait at-least until the end of this years WCQ in Zimbabwe or ICC annual general meeting.

You’ve mentioned Namibia may qualify for the Qualifier in March 2027, is it that they’ll get a direct berth as co-host or will they still have to go through the League 2 and Play-off

    • Hello Pranav

They have to go through the qualification pathway. If they finish in Top 4 of CWC League 2, they qualify directly to the CWC Qualifier. If they don’t, then they’ll have to compete in the CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament, and finish in top 4 of that competition to qualify for the CWC Qualifier. Only the Full member host’s, South Africa and Zimbabwe, have direct qualification for the CWC.

      Thanks and ragards,

Can i know the schedule date of nepal for remaining 2 series in 2025

In order for Assocate Teams to get some top match exposure, the respective boards should have talks with full member cricket boards for a regular bi lateral series. Full member nations can afford to field multiple teans. There woukd be 3-4 months where Associate Teams do not have any cricket in their calender and this period should be utilised by Associate Nations to play some games with Full Member nations .
