The East-Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifiers for 2024 ICC U19 Men’s World Cup will take place from June 12th – 21st, 2023 at Darwin, Australia. The Qualifier will see U19 teams from Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Samoa, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea (PNG) compete for the lone qualification spot into the main event in Sri Lanka. New Zealand decided to not send their team in the 2022 edition of the tournament, which saw the Scotland U19 team replace them in the main draw in the West Indies. PNG U19 were the team from the EAP region in the 2022 edition, as the qualifier for the same was cancelled in 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The matches during the U19 qualifiers will be live-streamed on NT Cricket’s YouTube channel. TIO Stadium in Northern Territory, where Australia Men last played in 2008, the only ICC accredited venue in the Territory to host senior international cricket, is getting a drop-in pitch, ahead of the ICC #U19CWC qualifier between New Zealand & Papua New Guinea on June 18th. New Zealand U19 team and Japan U19 team have prepared for this event by competing in their respective New Zealand U19 National Championships and Japan U19 League held this year, from which the top performers were selected by the coaching staff. Vanuatu U19 team played a practice game against the senior Men’s team before travelling to Darwin to compete in the tournament, while Samoan and Fiji teams were selected after National trials were held during April and May of this year.
