Vanuatu Cricket to host 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup EAP Qualifier in September 2023

Vanuatu Cricket Association (VCA) have been awarded the hosting rights for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Qualifier from September 01st – 08th, 2023. The host’s Women’s team will welcome National teams from Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Papua New Guinea and Samoa, with one (1) qualification spot on the line from the tournament into the Global Qualifier next year. The previous edition of the EAP Qualifiers scheduled in 2021 in Samoa were cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic, with Papua New Guinea Women advancing to the Global Qualifier on the basis of being the highest ranked team in the region at the cut-off date in November.

Samoa, Vanuatu, Indonesia, Japan and Fiji Women’s teams will be coming in the tournament, having played International tournaments in 2023 in East Asia Cup in China, Pacific Islands Cricket Challenge in Fiji and SEA games in Cambodia respectively.

Women’s teams of Vanuatu and Japan will be playing couple of T20 Internationals (with ranking points) as final preparations before the tournament begins on August 28th and August 30th at the Vanuatu Cricket Grounds. ICC is also hosting the 100% Cricket Leadership Program during the event, which focuses on athletes (leading female cricketers from the seven competing nations), commentators, and coaches. Supported by the Australian Government’s PacificAus Sports, the program seeks to uplift sport knowledge and sports-based skills within the EAP region. The program will be in-part, facilitated by former Australian cricketers and media personalities, Mel Jones, Julia Price, and Cathryn Fitzpatrick, as well as representatives from Australian Cricket and New Zealand Cricket.

As part of the Leadership Program day, a 100% Cricket Women’s Health Education session will be held with the participating teams. The objective of which is to normalise and drive necessary conversation around the topic of women’s health and menstrual cycles within the cricket ecosystem.
