The International Cricket Council (ICC) have awarded the hosting rights to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Global Qualifier from 12th January to 02nd February 2026. Ten (10) teams will be competing for the four (4) qualification spots, with matches to take place across two (2) venues at Mulpani, Kathmandu.
Bangladesh and Scotland were already confirmed for the Qualifier, having secured automatic qualification by virtue of their participation in the 2024 edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup which was won by New Zealand in Dubai. The remaining eight (8) teams were determined by way of regional qualifiers, with two (2) teams each from Africa, Asia and Europe and one team each from the East Asia-Pacific and the Americas regions completing the lineup.
Bangladesh, Ireland, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Namibia and United States of America (USA) are placed in Group A, in pursuit of the Super Six stage, from which the top four (4) will qualify for the main event. Nepal, Thailand, Netherlands, Zimbabwe and Scotland make up Group B in the competition.
Thailand and Nepal qualified from the Asia region, while the USA confirmed their place as the Americas’ representative. Namibia and Zimbabwe claimed the spots from the Africa region, Ireland and Netherlands claimed theirs from the Europe region and Papua New Guinea claimed the spot from the East Asia-Pacific region. The tournament will see two (2) groups of five (5) teams each, leading to a Super Six stage and then to the Final. Five (5) teams in the competition (Thailand, Scotland, Netherlands, Namibia and Papua New Guinea) got much-needed competitive fixtures through the newly launched ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand in November 2025, where they played seven (7) T20Is each. Furthermore, Thailand Women also participated in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in December 2025 at home, where they won both the T20I and T10 competitions.
