PNG go down to defending Champions in U-19 World Cup warm-up match

Papua New Guinea U-19 Garamuts had a sorry outing in their first warm-up fixture against defending Champions, West Indies U-19 in the ICC U-19 World Cup in New Zealand.

Put into bat first, PNG were bowled out for a low score of 105 in 41.1 overs. Igo Mahuru (22 off 64) and Ovia Sam (21 off 40) made some noteworthy individual scores but the rest of the batting line-up didn’t manage to add much to the total.

Jeavor Royal (2/4), Alick Athanaze (2/15) and Ashmead Nedd (2/10) were the pick of the bowlers for West Indies.

PNG bowlers managed to take 3 Windies wickets but the target was too low to apply more pressure as Bhaskar Yadram (37 n.o off 23) played a quickfire knock to take West Indies home with 106/3 made in 22.3 overs to win the match by 7 wickets.

PNG play one more warm-up fixture against New Zealand U-19 on 10th Jan 2018 before the main tournament starts. Garamuts need to focus more on their batting aspect to give their bowlers a chance to defend the scores when batting first.
